Disability Action Group Wales is a non for profit Organisation founded in April 2011.We are run by disabled people for disabled people with a physical, neurological, sensory impairment or long term health condition.
We provide advocacy, advisory services, buildings adaptations advice and disability equalities training. DAGW has adopted the Social Model of disability which recognises that disablement arises from the organisational, environmental, and attitudinal barriers society puts in the way of disabled people ,more than their impairments or health conditions.
We promote independent living which enables us to achieve our own goals and live our lives in the way that we choose for ourselves.
DAGW has two roles; the first is to liaise with Local Authorities, Welsh Government & UK Government to address the problems and issues affecting our everyday lives. To help find & implement solutions by working co-productively with them & partner organisations. To campaign for equality of opportunity with non- disabled people .
Our second equally important role is to bring disabled & non-disabled people together socially. We have social and sports activities including Kayak trips, fishing & shooting.
Often it seems that we are a hidden part of our communities. DAGW seek to change the negative perceptions of disabled people. By uniting and engaging with others with similar experiences ,we can improve our circumstances & show that we have an important contribution to make in our communities.
We are affiliated to Disability Rights UK, Disability Wales, Wales Council of Voluntary Associations and Ceredigion Association of Voluntary Organisations.
